We made a really nice trip with our Outdoor Biology Class. We went to “Boserup Skov” to walk around in the nature and watch natural phenomena. It was quite interesting to see how much live is in a forest and how much you can observe while you are walking with your eyes open.
12% of Denmark is a forest, so there is a lot of space where you can have a walk and enjoy the nature. The aim of Denmarks government is to have 20% of forest areas in the whole country. That means that you have the chance to have more natural life in Denmark soon.
We spend about 3 hours in the nature and saw a lot of nice things.
Mushrooms...
Did you know why mushrooms are growing at a tree? The function they have is to composting!
The largest Part of an mushroom is in the ground. The roots grow very large under the earth. The largest organism in the world is a mushroom, by the way.
You cannot eat all the mushrooms you find. You should be really carefully of those with lamella!
For example this Ametist you shouldn´t eat! |
| Nicolai and the beech |
Of course we saw a lot of trees. The beech is the most growing tree in Denmark and a shadow tree. That means, that it is difficult for the sunlight to go through.
If you measure the light-intensity on the top of the crown, it will be 100 %. And on the bottom of the beech there is only a light-intensity of 2%. That is the reason why there are less plants growing under this tree. For instants the oak is a light tree. You will find a lot of bushes and plants under an oak.
We also saw a place called a sump in the forest. |
That came into existence during the ice age. There was a big part of ice left for a long time. And now you can find a lot of different plants there, for instants fern and reed. Reed has something special in the inside: it is a material you can use as a wick for a candle.
Of course, we also saw some animals. For instants we saw an edible snail. Nicolai told us that those animals are male and female in one. So as we all know, snails are very slow. When they are lucky, they find a partner and of course they have to breed. So because of their ambisexuality they will always have succsess!
| We also saw this pretty larve. |
We also experienced that algae are not only in the water! We found two kinds of these plants:
One time next to the fjord ... |
| ... and the other time on a bucked tree. |
Walking next to the water was very nice. |
